A Simple Tool to Estimate Your Bathroom Renovation Costs

Planning a bathroom renovation can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to figuring out how many tiles, plasterboards, or adhesive bags you’ll need. That’s where our Bathroom Tile and Material Calculator comes in—a free, easy-to-use tool designed to help you estimate the materials required for your project. Whether you’re tiling walls, flooring, or installing plasterboards, this calculator provides a handy starting point for budgeting and planning.

Important Note: This calculator is purely a guide to assist with material estimates. It’s not a professional specification or a substitute for expert advice. Always consult a contractor or supplier for precise measurements and requirements tailored to your specific project.

Here’s how to use the calculator step-by-step to get accurate estimates for your bathroom renovation:

Step 1: Enter Your Room Dimensions

Start by measuring your bathroom’s length, width, and height in meters. These are the core dimensions needed to calculate the surface areas for walls, floors, and ceilings.

Length: Measure the longest wall from end to end.

Width: Measure the perpendicular wall.

Height: Measure from floor to ceiling.

Input these values into the fields under “Room Dimensions.” Use decimals (e.g., 2.5 for 2.5 meters) for precision.

Step 2: Add Window Dimensions

If your bathroom has windows, include their sizes to adjust the wall area that needs tiling or plasterboarding.

Click “Add Window” for each window in your space.

Enter the width and height of each window in meters.

Need to remove a window entry? Just hit the “Remove” button next to it.

This ensures the calculator subtracts window areas from the total wall surface, giving you a more accurate estimate.

Step 3: Input Door Dimensions

Doors also affect the wall area, so measure your bathroom door’s width and height in meters and enter these values in the “Door Dimensions” section. This step helps refine the tiling and plasterboard calculations by excluding the door space.

Step 4: Hit “Calculate”

Once all your measurements are entered, click the “Calculate” button. The tool instantly processes your inputs and delivers a detailed breakdown of estimated materials.

Understanding Your Results

Here’s what the calculator provides:

Wall Area to be Tiled: The net wall surface (minus windows and doors) in square meters.

Ceiling Area: The total ceiling area in square meters.

Floor Area: The floor surface area in square meters.

Number of Plasterboards Needed: Calculated by taking the ceiling area and gross wall area, adding 10% for wastage, and dividing by 2.88 m² (standard plasterboard size).

Wall Tile Area Needed: Net wall area plus 10% wastage, perfect for ordering tiles.

Floor Tile Area Needed: Floor area plus 10% wastage.

Wall and Floor Tile Adhesive Bags: Estimated bags needed, assuming 5 m² coverage per bag.

Linear Meters of Tile Trim: Total trim required around windows and door thresholds.

Tips for Using the Calculator Effectively

Double-Check Measurements: Accuracy is key. Use a tape measure or laser tool for best results.

Account for Wastage: The 10% wastage factor covers cuts and breakage, but complex layouts may need more.

Round Up: Material quantities (like plasterboards and adhesive bags) are rounded up to whole numbers since you can’t buy fractions.

Save Your Results: Jot down the estimates to share with suppliers or contractors.
